Merry Christmas Grandma Barker

Today we drove up to see my Grandma and wish her a Merry Christmas.  Jason and Nick's families showed up, Shannon was sick so they stayed home but we still took up Maddie and Colton.  The home that she is in had a nice room that we could meet in and everyone brought some food up to share.  The kids got to draw Great Grandma a card, we ate food, sang some songs and wished her a happy holiday season.  On the way home we went and saw Grandma and Grandpa Reeder and then went to Aly's parent's house for dinner.

Tonight I thought about my Girls and their relationship with their Grandparents compared to mine with my Grandparents.  I grew up an hour away from my Grandparent's so we usually only saw them once a month at the most.  My girls get to see their's anytime they want, so I think that relationship is better than I had with mine.  When I was six years old like Isabelle, my Grandma Barker would have been 59 years old (pretty much the same age as her Grandparent's are) and it is hard to remember how she used to be.  Some of my favorite memories were playing in their huge backyard;  we would shoot pellet guns, swing, climb trees, play on the old clothes line, and drink coke under the massive tree just outside their back door.

It's sad to think today we can't recreate those memories.  Time has past and today she is in a home because she can't take care of herself and were left to remember the better times.  Hopefully she knows how much we love her, and even though we don't get to see her that often, she knows that we are grateful for all that she has done for our family.

Great story...probably about enduring to the end! Thanks, Eric.
